It’s a pleasure to use authentic manual focus lens on Fuji X cameras mercifully to very convenient focus assist system. It is the major reason for me to use third party lens available for Fuji X bracket, or adapting the other compact lens options. Among my favourite accommodated lens on Fuji X camera would be Voigtlander 50mm F even though it’s intended for a Full Frame and can be a bit hefty. But I enjoy it for small dimensions and adequate medium sharpness so ideal for portrait. Of course any additional lens APS-C alternative should be optically smaller so that I was always searching for another options. 7artisans 55mm Fis quite interesting candidate as a result of attractive cost and 14-blades aperture. Unboxing 7artisans 55mm F1. 4I’ve received this particular lens sample as a surprising gift directly from 7artisansfactory. It was a nice surprise, since I never attempted 55mm on cropped sensor and it’s a great chance to try out a little more slender angle. Lens arrived securely packed in a sealed box. 7artisans typically print optical formula and add mount sticker (“FX” in my case) on the rear box facet. This sealed tape usually means the box was opened following the factory launch. I was anticipating the little size, because it’s APS-C lens. But I got amazed with how really small it is. Lens is wrapped in plastic bag and sits in large review | 7artisans 55mm f/1 4 lens | density foam compartment, so that could be later employed as a suitable storage. This 7artisans 55mm Fsample typically comes with plastic front and back caps. I immediately attempted the aperture ring spinning to discover the 14-blades aperture shape. Surprisingly it’s quite tight to turn. I believe that it’s expected for such big variety of blades to avoid any harm in case the simple quick rotation is possible. I enjoy the plan of this aperture ring and focus ring — textured shape with curved edges is very convenient. Though by every time whine is lack of step-click which typicaly forces to appear at lens numbers more often than I do if using ckick-stop aperture of Voigtlander. 4 photo samples (with Fuji X-E2s body)The photo below is a semi permeable square crop of the fundamental frame space taken at F The DOF is rather narrow on APS-C sensor once the distance to the area is all about 3ft. I like this moderate amount of sharpness at Fwhich is considerably hotter than native Fuji X lens. Nonetheless, it brings enough degree of information. The background is lovely blurred without distractive artifacts. Obviously 7artisans 55mm Fis made for areas at the middle. Just consider its price, there aren’t any ED or aspherical elements. So it’s expected to see very soft spots in borders and corners even at F just such as on the image below (downsized to 1200px)
